Niên Việt Nam Tự Do tham dự diễn hành
“Martin Luther King Parade & Celebration” tại Long Beach
 Long
Beach - Hàng năm, tổ chức Martin Luther King Prade & Celebration đều tổ
chức cuộc diễn hành tại Long Beach để kỷ niệm Mục Sư Martin Luther King Jr,
một nhà lănh tụ da đen đấu tranh nhân quyền nổi tiếng trong
thập niên 1960.
Năm nay, buổi diễn hành đă
được tổ chức vào ngày Thứ Bảy, 13 tháng 01 năm 2001 với 124 đơn vị diễn hành,
qui tụ gần 5000 thành viên của nhiều đoàn thể Hoa Kỳ và một số Hội đoàn các
Cộng Đồng
thiểu số. Nhân dịp này, Đoàn Thanh Niên Việt Nam Tự Do Orange County đă nhận
lời mời của Ban Tổ Chức và đă phối hợp với Đoàn San Diego đề cử 40 đoàn viên
tham dự qua việc biểu dương lư tưởng tự do của người Việt Tỵ nạn trong h́nh
thức 3 thế hệ người Việt cùng nâng một lá đại kỳ VNCH, dài 20f, đi phía sau
là những chiêng, trống, cờ lộng và một ghế ngồi với tượng của vua Hùng Vương
do 6 thanh niên khiêng cùng với quan văn, vơ tướng, nữ tướng và nhiều lính hầu
với y phục lính thú ngày xưa.
 Trong
khi diễn hành, lời dẫn giải về ư nghĩa
lá cờ vàng và Vua Hùng Vương dựng nước bằng Anh ngữ đă được phát loa cho quần
chúng đứng hai bên đường nghe và đă được mọi người hoan nghinh nhiệt liệt.
Những Đài truyền h́nh lớn
như CNN, ABC...đều có mặt để trực tiếp làm phóng sự tại chổ. Theo ghi nhận của
Ban Tổ Chức, người ta ước lượng có hơn 20 ngàn người đă đến xem buổi diễn hành.
Riêng Đoàn Thanh Niên Việt Nam Tự Do với màu sắc rực rỡ và nội dung có ư nghĩa
đặc biệt nên rất được Ban Tổ Chức Diễn
Hành và người xem tán thưởng, có người c̣n hy vọng rằng có thể đơn vị diễn hành
của Việt Nam sẽ được chấm giải nhất trong cuộc diễn hành long trọng này.

 Marching
in bright, historical Vietnamese costumes is the Free Vietnam Youth Foundation
of Southern California. Participating
in the Martin Luther King’s Parade for the first time, the Youth Group decided
on a theme, reflecting on the idea of Human Rights and Freedom that Doctor Martin
Luther King had fought for.
Leading the march of the Free Vietnam Youth Foundation is the Group’s Banner,
followed by the Free Vietnam Youth’s Logo.
On either side of the logo, two teens hold high the respective flags
for the United States and Vietnam.
6 individuals then carry the beloved
flag of Vietnam. Like the Stars
and Stripes, the Viet namese
flag is laden with symbolism and historical meaning, which makes Vietnamese
Americans feel a great emotional bond with its "colors". It is the flag under
which hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese and Americans have fought shoulder
to shoulder and died, defending freedom against an internationally inspired
and communist-led aggressive war against the Republic of Vietnam. That the war
ended in 1975 in the subjugation of South Vietnam, in no way reflects negatively
on the symbolism of those "colors". In fact, the very survival of that flag
is the survival of the idea of freedom, which remains the idea of all free men
on earth.
The Vietnamese flag has a yellow background and three horizontal red stripes
along its entire length. The "golden yellow" has been the traditional color
of Vietnam for over two thousand years. It is also the color of earth, as understood
in universal scheme of five elements in Oriental cosmology. The three stripes
represent three regions of Vietnam:
North, Central, and South Vietnam united as one in a national community.
The vibrant red color of the stripes is the color of blood flowing through one's
veins ; symbolic of Vietnam's unflagging struggle for independence throughout
its recorded history. 58,000 Americans laid down their lives in the Vietnam
War for a noble cause, the cause of freedom and democracy. It is the banner
around which all free Vietnamese identify themselves and rally, as long as the
dream of a free Vietnam remains alive and well.
 Directly
behind the free flowing flag, marches the culture of Vietnam.
This group consists of warriors, generals, and royal members of the King
Hung Vung dynasty, which plays a very important role in the historical background
that leads back to over 5,000 years.
Surrounded by the entertainers of that time, fly the actual flags which
once represented the five separate regions of Vietnam prior to the Vung dynasty.
Two of the highest ranking
generals clear the path for the honorable King Hung Vung. The gernerals, proudly
walking side by side, are dressed very distinctively. Their decorative clothing
is a representation of their stature amongst other officials. Six bodyguards
assist in carrying the king through the masses of people. They are closely followed
by an army of men eager to serve and protect the king. The people show great
adoration towards the king.
A number of attributes can
link King Hung Vung to greatness, but one of his many feats puts him in a class
of his own. He is solely
responsible for taking five separate and very different regions and uniting
them into one whole. Not just a whole people or a whole nation. King Hung Vung
united them as one whole family.
The comparisons are staggering between King Hung Vung and the man we
are here to celebrate today, Martin Luther King Jr. Both of these great leaders
were men of great honor who loved their respective people very dearly.
These are two leaders who passionately strived towards a very common
goal. Their legacy still remains vivid in the hearts and minds of children and
adults everywhere, all fascinated by the glory they have brought to their people.
